September 21 2019 in Irvine California, the Southern CA Derby for third division Professional division took place. The game had been expected for a long time and both teams came in differently to perform. The game was hosted by Orange County’s Cal United from Irvine California
The team had been getting prepared for a really long time leaving behind the other league they had initially had said to be there priority such as the UPSL and NPSL. So they had not played the LA Force team because of these reasons. Many say it was some sort of technique that the Owner Pete and Bronwyn Capriotti and Michael Collins, of the team had , who also have a lot of family and that was the reason half of the stadium being filled with their family that helps work for the team. The Stadium filled for a third division team, looks like some people don’t want their dreams to end and they enforce them to participate as much as possible to take down the actual professional local team in Irvine, Orange County Soccer Club. In many other fans words, “we have a third division? “A team in Orange County.” As you can all see third division is trying to make their way up to MLS. I don’t know if there too sure on what their next plans are.
The fact being, this was their first home game at the stadium and among about 700 people (fans) present. They received a cute little souvenirs that the owners decided would be a good touch and flare to mentally break the opponent. As the Derby began the fans took their places after chatting with one another and prayed they would get a good outcome. The game began 4 pm sharp on a warm Sunday. The players from LA Force had the advantage because they had been competing in USL League 2 and many playoffs. All that experience went down the drain as they were scored on at minute 11 by their ex-teammate Gustavo Villalobos #11 for Cal United. LA Force somehow looked like they were out of place as if they didn’t know each other’s teammates the coaches didn’t even react as they continued to look weak after the first goal that came off as a bad pass back to defense by Alvaro Madrigal. The game finally started to pick up and LA force was beginning to communicate at minute 33’ they picked up even more as they regrouped and insisted they get a goal before halftime ending. Cal United beginning to feel threatened began to talk back to the referee, the referee later getting a brutally annoyed pulled out the first yellow to player #11 Abraham Villon for aggressively talking back and hitting player Ricky Ruiz #12 from LA Force. The game was starting to get heated as things got to halftime. The score was left 1-0 with just one minute added to stoppage with the first sub of the game.
As second half started both teams again tried to say a few motivational words to keep the last minutes of first half momentum going. Shots from LA Force giving the fans and themselves hope that the game would turn out just fine. Unfortunately, it did not begin that way again, as Christian Thierjung got his goal in minute fifty-one and celebrated like he had won the game already! The game continued and LA Force without correcting their mental problems the team showed with one another, this added to the fact that they could not connect a pass. They began to get frustrated and right before Cal United’s second substitute #17 Andy Contreras for Kevin Jeon and then soon after LA Force receiving a penalty kick off #12 Ricky Ruiz getting fouled viciously by defender #5 Xavier Fuerte originally from Kauai, Hawaii took him down . LA Force’s team morale dropping , with no Captain on the field present boosting them up to not give up had the misfortune to miss the penalty opportunity and seeing all eleven players heads just drop was a truly awful scene any true soccer player would be effected by. And as one team’s heads went down the others Cal United, cheered their starting goal keepers save Steven Barrera #0 as he got up from an injury after the save. Later the referee gives LA Force a bad call by saying that the player dove after brutality getting slide tackled by defender #5 once more . Referee calls a dive and gives #19 Tanko a yellow and takes one of the other opportunities from Force and leaves them mentally low as they have no more hope in their current emotional state. LA Force already with no luck on their side gets a another bad call but this time a foul at minute 63 creating less time for them to score at. LA Force tries different strategies to create goals but instead of the substitute helping it bounces back because they left the right side with no defender just to add men on top. Cal United makes a substitute at minute 70 to get deeper in LA’s head by wasting time on the final sub. and then comes the third goal by veteran player Kris Klute who had been let go from MLS for some strange reason . He creates the third goal and crushes LA’s Forces possibilities of even obtaining there only goal.
Of course most of the players from LA disappointed in their performance had many fans blown away as the saw the Head Coach and Owner, Bob Friedland do absolutely nothing as he stood in the exact same place the entire game. After he had shown enthusiasm that he was bringing professional soccer to his already successful legacy of Los Angeles.” Like he said when interviewed by NISA Official News on their Website. Even though LA Force had a better chance to score in second half the chemistry that Cal United had over them obviously destroyed LA’s chances the most and after a few comments from fans and sources from the league the scored ended in an awful three nil, Cal United winning the Southern CA Derby and going home with their heads held up high after losing with San Diego’s 1904 FC the weekend before.
